Good oral and dental hygiene can help to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath. A healthy mouth can help to ward off other medical disorders. For example, poor oral hygiene is one of the key factors contributing to pneumonia in high-risk patients.
Dental hygiene involves tooth-brushing and oral irrigation. Patients who have difficulty rinsing, either due to poor strength or pain, will find it challenging to maintain good oral hygiene. While there are different types of tooth-brushes to accommodate assisted tooth-brushing, none of these assist in mouth rinsing and gargling.
